January brought a glut of games, a historical winning streak for the basketball team, and an unforgettable trip to Fenway Park:
Despite losing to UNH 5-3, Northeastern women’s hockey entered the spotlight in front of thousands of fans at Fenway Park in a historic outdoor game, the first of its kind at the collegiate level.

In front of nearly 3,000 at Matthews Arena, Northeastern completed its historic sweep over the VCU Rams, giving the Huskies their 11th-consecutive victory.

Despite the winning streak coming to a close the game prior, Northeastern stormed back to a thrilling home victory over eventual CAA champions Old Dominion. This time, Matthews Arena broke the 3,000 attendance marker for the first time in years.

It’s been a while, and it’s good to be back. While men’s basketball has been stuck in the middle of the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 poll, Northeastern hockey hasn’t seen the pollercoaster since this feature ran on November 11th. A lot has happened since then. At that point hockey was on the highest of highs, defeating Boston University at home. The team has experienced rock bottom, a 9-2 drubbing in Burlington, Vermont. Since that blowout, the Huskies are 6-1. Add to that wins against teams under consideration (Lowell, UMass, Vermont), and NU once again becomes a team represented in the most recent USCHO poll.
So, how does Northeastern stand in those polls? Read more…
