Today on the Dog Pound Sports Sound

February 5th, 2010

Due to a combination of logistical problems (maybe), a thin staff (perhaps), and overall laziness (most likely), we’ll be swapping in and out different hosts this week. Don’t worry, you’ll still be treated to the same quality programming as always on a Friday afternoon. Here’s what we have for you:

  • Darren Costa stops by to talk about the N Zone, Bracketbusters, and anything else related to Huskies basketball.
  • Alex Faust calls in to talk some Huskies hockey before a big game against Merrimack tonight.
  • We recap the Beanpot, a major win at home and a blowout victory on the road for basketball, and look at the prospects for the post-season.
  • All the banter you love keeps you entertained, and the Husky Hotwire keeps you up-to-date every 30 minutes.

It all starts at 3:00 p.m. live on WRBB.

We’re well-aware that Northeastern basketball is in the midst of a large winning streak, but that’s not the only Huskies sports story out there. We’ll preview the weekend and impart our NU sports knowledge to you.

  • Yeah, so about that winning streak. It’s at 10, so the one question is - will it go to 11? Jason and Will stop by to give us the important details about Saturday’s game.
  • There’s also a fan buzz about the game, we’ll look at some of the efforts in progress to get students out to the game.
  • Northeastern hockey won two out of three games this past week - is the worst behind them, or will injuries continue to drag this team along?
  • Women’s hockey is doing well - 1st in Hockey East, 8th in the nation, and finally got a non-losing decision against UNH earlier this week. Are they headed for an NCAA tournament bid?
  • Plus, as always, we’ll get to anything else that’s relevant to Huskies Nation (a.k.a. the NFL playoffs)

It all starts at 3 p.m. tomorrow, and remember (just like our newspaper ad said on Thursday), the opinions expressed are not those of Northeastern University. And we like it that way.

Take a break from finals, and get the Huskies sports talk you crave. In our final full-length show of the fall semester, there’s a lot to discuss. Tune in today beginning at 3:00 p.m., and here’s what you’ll hear:

  • Northeastern basketball continues to come up short in games. Why are the losses piling up, and what must be on the agenda for the team during their west coast trip in two weeks?
  • Huskies hockey continues their middle-of-the-road season with a game against Maine tomorrow night. Will this game be a turning point in the season, just before the holiday break?
  • What were the biggest moments of the 2009 calendar year? Was it Alex Tuckerman’s goal in the Hockey East quarterfinals, or the achievement of going to the NCAA tournament? What about Chaisson Allen’s half-court shot that’s been seen around the world on YouTube? Maybe it was the Baseball Beanpot, which Northeastern won in dramatic fashion over UMass? IM the studio (wrbbradio on AIM) or call in during the show with your thoughts.
  • We’ll have our final national segment of the year, and the final “last call” from the cast of thousands.

Tune in to 104.9-FM on campus, or on your computer at WRBBSports.com beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Today on the Dog Pound Sports Sound

December 4th, 2009

Nearly two weeks after Northeastern ended its football program, the Dog Pound Sports Sound returns to the air having digested that announcement over Thanksgiving break. Today’s show won’t be exclusively devoted to the football news (or the subsequent news that Hofstra is following suit), but you can be sure that there will be plenty of views on the topic. With that in mind, here’s today’s rundown:

  • Peter Roby spelled out the reasons for the end of football at Northeastern - we’ll explain our reactions to the decision, run down the arguments for and against the cut, as well as what will/should happen to the scholarships and money from the program.
  • Hofstra announced yesterday in a shocking move that it too was cutting football. What are the ramifications for the CAA, and is a larger conference realignment in store, not just for the CAA, but college sports on the whole?
  • What are your favorite memories of Northeastern football? Was it the 2002 A-10 championship? Storming the field in 2006 against New Hampshire? E-mail us (sports@wrbbradio.org) your memories.
  • Northeastern basketball dropped a heartbreaker to Providence on Tuesday. Jason Lavine stops by to talk about that game and preview tomorrow’s contest against Drexel to open CAA play.
  • Huskies Hockey plays a new-look Merrimack team on the road tonight. Keith Lavon and Alex Faust call in from North Andover to talk about the weekend series.

As always, the phone lines will be open throughout the show - call the studio at (617) 373-2658, or instant message the studio via wrbbradio on AIM. It all starts at 3:00 p.m. live on WRBB and WRBBSports.com!

November 20th, 2009

It’s our final show in November, so we have a feast of Huskies sports to cover this weekend. Building on the serious, unbiased program from last night, we continue our banter this afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m. right here at WRBBsports.com:

  • Northeastern hockey wraps up their 3-game homestand this Friday against Providence - is this weekend a must-sweep for the Huskies? Will Providence continue their good run of play?
  • Hockey East is still tightly-packed, and two of the bottom three teams are NU and BU. What does Northeastern have to do, in order to climb out of the early-season cellar?
  • Huskies hoops returns home to face Utah State. What went wrong for NU at Siena on Tuesday, and can it be fixed for this Saturday’s big game? What do you think the turnout will be for the new N-Zone fan section?
  • CAA basketball is struggling in out-of-conference play, but there are a few bright spots. Will the rest of the conference follow the good wins for UNC-Wilmington and William & Mary?
  • Huskies football wraps up their season, and as strange as it sounds, NU could actually improve their year-to-year win total if they can beat 1-9 Rhode Island.
  • The Six Pack (we hope!) and Last Call

Tune in today beginning at 3:00 p.m., and share your opinions on the show. Call (617) 373-2658 or send an e-mail to sports@wrbbradio.org - listen live right here on WRBBsports.com!
