BC 2, NU 1: Eagles complete season series sweep

January 15th, 2012

BOSTON – For the bulk of Saturday’s game at Fenway Park, it was a one goal affair. But at every turn, each time the Huskies tried to come back into the game, an untimely penalty, a bad bounce, seemed to doom their effort. It was yet another 1-goal game against Boston College, the seventh game in a row the Huskies and Eagles have decided their game by a goal or less. But in the end, the 1-goal result was one that has become familiar against the Eagles: a loss.

Wednesday Notebook: Homecoming up next

November 16th, 2011

(Photo: Junhee Chung/Daily Free Press)

What a weekend – four thrilling games, unfortunately followed by basketball’s letdown on Monday. But, all things being equal, the Huskies got one marquee win over the weekend, the absolutely heart-stopping overtime victory over Boston University in basketball on Friday night. If you haven’t heard the entire game broadcast, you’re in luck, because we’ve archived it (WRBB Sports), and it’s definitely worth a listen. Now comes homecoming weekend, with the last basketball home game for two weeks and the last home hockey game for three weeks.

We’ll get to the upcoming games in a moment, but first back to the week that was… Read more…

BC 2, NU 1: In another 3rd period fade, BC wins it late

November 12th, 2011

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. — It’s no longer a trend for Northeastern. It’s become part of their early-season identity. Another game in which the Huskies started well, but faded in the third period. Cody Ferriero got the Huskies out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st period with a rebound put in inadvertently off his skate, then Kevin Hayes tied the game in the 2nd period off a Braden Pimm turnover directly in front of the net. But it was a last-minute third period interference penalty by Luke Eibler, set up what was the winning power play for BC: with BC peppering the net, Tommy Cross fired a shot from the left side that deflected off a NU defenseman underneath Chris Rawlings, with just 2.8 seconds remaining.

The Eagles put up 36 shots during the game (doubling the Huskies’ output), but Chris Rawlings made 34 saves, in the 7th consecutive game that the Huskies allowed 30 shots or more. As they have every game this year, the Huskies were once again out-shot. Click here for the Box Score.
