Dog Pound Sports Sound: 1/20/12
We started out this week’s show with a discussion of the men’s basketball team’s two wins over William & Mary and Georgia State, which put them into a 4-way tie for 3rd place in the CAA heading into a challenging road trip with games at Drexel and Old Dominion. Jared Shafran also called in to discuss the men’s hockey team after losses to Boston University and Boston College (at Frozen Fenway), and the upcoming contests with UMass-Lowell.

In the time since the end of our show, when we talked about the lack of an announcement on Beanpot ticket sales, we have received more information. The first 1,000 students who arrive at the women’s hockey game on Saturday (January 21) will receive a voucher that guarantees access to Beanpot tickets. Of those, the first 300 will be able to make their purchase at the women’s game, beginning after the 2nd period. The remaining 700 can buy their tickets on Sunday morning at 9:00 am. Northeastern athletics asks students to use the zamboni entrance of the arena, and requests that students do not arrive before 7:00 am.
The Huskies won their fourth straight game, their longest streak of the season, with a 60-57 victory at home against the Georgia State Panthers, who entered the game tied for first place in the CAA.
Panthers head coach Ron Hunter addressed the media following a 60-57 loss at Northeastern. He discussed his team’s recent success, and how this season has been an adjustment for both him and his team.
The Huskies commit untimely penalties, while Boston College uses a shorthanded goal and a Chris Rawlings mistake to claim a 2-1 win at Fenway Park.
The Huskies strike first with back-to-back goals, but BU scores four unanswered to take control of the game, winning 4-3.
