Pollercoaster: Basketball, women’s hockey join the fun
November 2nd, 2009
It’s week 6 of following the hockey polls, with Northeastern barely clinging onto life in the USCHO rankings, and still absent from USA Today’s list. Without games to play, the Huskies had nowhere to go. However, women’s hockey swept Vermont over the weekend, improving to 7-1-1 and being recognized by the voters for their efforts.
Here’s how the hockey polls shake out:
- USCHO.com Men’s: Northeastern receiving votes, unofficially 26th. Four Hockey East teams squeak into the top 16.
- USA Today Men’s: Huskies not present, but again four Hockey East teams appear in the top 16.
- USCHO.com Women’s: NU appears for the first time this season, fresh off a weekend sweep of the Vermont Catamounts. Three Hockey East teams are in the top 10.
- USA Today Women’s: Northeastern garners some votes, sitting in 12th unofficially.
Meanwhile, we’ll be keeping track of various mid-major basketball polls during the season. The first one is out, from collegeinsider.com - Northeastern ranks 13th, behind fellow CAA teams ODU (6), VCU (11), and GMU (12).
